The Planning Process

It’s time to imagine an equitable future in Gainesville, where your race and background no longer predict access to jobs, housing, or quality of life.

During phase 1 of the Comprehensive Plan we’ve been working across city departments to identify how current city policies have reinforced racial inequity. Then, we hosted a series of listening sessions to understand the realities of inequity from the lived experiences of Gainesville neighbors. Now, we will begin to prioritize policies and practices that will broaden access to affordable homes, quality education, good paying jobs and thriving neighborhoods. Imagine GNV will lay out actions the City can take over the next decade to reinvest in marginalized communities, address the historic and current impacts of structural racism and guide decisions about investments in nearly every aspect of life in Gainesville.

You spoke. We listened. Did we get everything?

What is the Comprehensive Plan? And how does it impact me?

The city’s comprehensive plan impacts nearly every aspect of everyday life. Meet Erica, 36-year-old, mother of two. Today, because bus routes and childcare facilities are not near Erica’s home, it takes her more than an hour to get to and from work each day. In a more equitable future, Erica would have better options to get around and access to community resources, like childcare, closer to her home or office. Learn more about Erica and the many ways the comprehensive plan could impact her life, and yours.
