I am surprised and disappointed to see that the environment section of the Comp Plan has nothing about preserving and enhancing the urban canopy and following our Tree City policies. There is plenty of data on how an urban canopy affects the physical and mental health of residents and how Black neighborhoods tend to have less of a canopy. The urban canopy should be addressed in this plan. Also, with the recent creation of a Climate Officer position in the city, the Comp Plan should include verbiage that connects that position to neighborhood planning. This is REALLY important for the intent of this lasting document.

Stormwater engineering seems like a technical issue that would not be served well by additional community workshops. These workshops could provide a small number of people the opportunity to block the development of needed affordable housing under the pretext of environmental issues.
This is good however without the proper hiring of staff management of these newly acquired nature preserves will be inadequate. This will prevent them from utilizing their full conservational value. As we know Floridas ecosystems are based on Fire ecology.

Whenever a target date is set we must add realistic benchmarks (say, every 2 or 3 years) on the path to that target. Then, if any benchmarks is not met there has to be adjustments made so that the target date is met.

Hopefully, your targets will be those people in low income neighborhoods who have the least resources and energy to accomplish the changes so badly needed- they pay the most for everything due to poor housing, older high energy appliances, etc. What incentives can you offer them to learn more about it? and how can it be turned into a neighborhood effort that involves social interaction for more success?
